If you recall from last year (hehe) I did a series throughout the year called cover love to high new releases and their beautiful covers. Its 2020 and I am still keeping that ball rolling.
Beyond the fact that these books look gorgeous and will look absolutely stunning on my bookshelf, they sound fantastic.
What books are you looking forward to so far this year?
Libby and May are best friends and to signify their friendship they create Princess X. Libby draws the pictures while May creates the stories. Soon Princess X becomes a heroine that destroys dragons and saves kingdoms.
Years later Libby gets into a car accident with her mom going over a bridge on a rainy night and dies. But along with Libby, Princess X dies as well.
Now May is 16 and sees stickers about Princess X all over Seattle and finds out there is a website telling the story that she and Libby created. But it is different now. There is more to the story that wasn’t there before.
May knows the only person that create this is Libby. So using the story she goes to find her best friend.
The fact that there are people out there who do not like this book is bugging me out. I finished this book in one sitting.
I love a good mystery but I really love a book that uses actual clues to get from point A to point B. You don’t really know how close Libby and May are until the clues start getting complicated. For most of the book it feels like they met, clicked and then Libby dies. It also feels (and probably is the case) that May doesn’t have any friends. We know that she didn’t before Libby but it seems that way after Libby as well.
What really made me fall for this book was the Princess X story. It was good and it tied in perfectly to the present story. That took a lot of focus and creativity on the author’s part. However, I can’t say I actually liked May. There wasn’t much to her other than Libby. Yeah, she could crack a joke and she stood her own, which was cool but she wasn’t the star in this book for me. She kept things going but the mystery, the clues that is what kept the book going.
Not only did I want more from May, I also wanted to understand her relationship with her father more. He was overly protective and there is a hint to why but it is not enough to explain it. I would have liked to see more of their relationship.
From the moment you read the summary you know how the book is going to end. There was nothing new there but I loved the lack of romance in the novel, I loved the clues and the graphic novel portion of it. You want to keep reading because what’s that cheesy saying? “Its not the destination but the journey? Something like that.

Kaylyn has been trained her whole life to defeat evil and at 17 years-old, she has her chance to do it. Once Kaylyn has defeated the ultimate evil eliminating all evil in the world a new problem arises in another town and they desperately need her help.
But the cost of helping this town threats the existence that her people have been fighting for as well as her friendship and a love she didn’t know existed.
I can deal with love triangles as long as they make some kind of sense. The love triangle in this story didn’t make sense. But I do give the author credit for what she did with it at the end.
But I am getting ahead of myself. I didn’t like this book. Kaylyn does not have a single shred of personality. All she knows is the best friend she is in love with and her missions. She is plain jane and not in the sense of looks but personality and development.
What pissed me off was how she was only willing to move forward with the “love” she was feeling for the sake of the mission. She wasn’t doing it because she felt it was right and that she deserved to be happy. Oh no she did it for the mission.
I also was pissed of at the best friend. You’re telling me that you’re in love with her as much but lead her friend on and then want to claim self-righteousness once you admit how you feel? Man, no.
I felt that there could have been a lot more passion, energy coming from all of these characters. I love the idea and the concept of this book; a necessary evil. But I felt it lacked the drive needed to prove this point.
