Monthly Wrap-Up: September

Can you believe it? We are in October and I am writing a post for my September wrap up. Time is moving fast and I am not ready for it. But any way September was a month of renewal. So here are the basics:

ARCS:

I am extremely proud of myself as I was determined to get back on track with my arcs. I still have some ways to go but man I did good. But back to my original statement that September was a month of renewal.

I went to the library for the first time in months and it was great to be in that environment. It was quiet, clean and peaceful. I have no idea why I stopped going but the goal is to go once a week as part of my new self- care routine.

At the same time, I also rediscovered my love for reading and renovating my home. Although I am a bit stressed out, my time management is way better than it use to be.

Overall, despite time moving faster then I can handle, taking it day by day and being positive is making a difference in my life.

Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom) has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked . . . until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.

Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.

With starry Texas nights, red candy suckers, Dolly Parton songs, and a wildly unforgettable heroine— Dumplin’ is guaranteed to steal your heart.- Goodreads

What Tanya Wants: September 2014

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J Mass: Celaena learns the truth about herself and must decide to fight for herself or continue to be a slave to those she has grown to love.

Trial by Fire (Worldwalker #1)  by Josephine Angelini: A girl wishes to disappear and is sent to a “New Salem” and discovers her other self.

Falling into Place by Amy Zhang: Most popular girl at school has a breakdown and tries to kill herself.

Unmade (The Lynburn Legacy #3) by Sarah Rees Brennan: Final book to the indecisive Kami in a weird love triangle trying to defeat the most powerful wizard in Sorry-in-the-Vale.

Lullabies by Lang Leav: A collection of poetry involving love and loss (the author has been really hyped so I am curious)

The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare: Holly Black is a master at creepy stories so of course I am going to read this book even if she was simply an editor.

Brisbane Writers Festival- 50 Years

Brisbane Writers Festival located in Australia is celebrating 50 years from September 5-9. But if you’ve never been to Australia then you would I have no idea what it is ( I certainly didn’t). So here is some facts :

  • BWF celebrates the ideas, reading and writings of the people of Queensland
  • Author interviews meet and greets are big highlights to the festival
  • New writers are introduced and as with any festival there are giveaways

This festival is free and they also have workshops available to the public  however I am unsure if those are free as well.

Hope you enjoyed this little FYI and if we have any readers who are in Australia able to attend this event do not hesitate to let us know how it went!
